Tony Hadley is the former Spandau Ballet frontman and successful solo artist. Coming to Glasgow’s Royal Concert Hall on 23rd November 2025.
Born in Islington, Tony Hadley was greatly inspired by the music of Frank Sinatra. When he was 17 years old, Hadley not only saw Ol’ Blue Eyes perform at London’s Royal Albert Hall, but also managed to get backstage and shake his hand.
Not long after, Hadley co-founded and became the lead vocalist of Spandau Ballet. The members of the New Romantic band had all gone to school together. Spandau Ballet rose to prominence throughout the ’80s, having released eight top 10 UK albums and numerous top 10 singles including To Cut A Long Story Short, True, Gold, Only When You Leave and Through The Barricade.
In addition, Hadley recorded solo vocals for Do They Know It’s Christmas? in 1984 as part of Bob Geldof’s charity supergroup Band Aid, while Spandau Ballet also performed during 1985’s Live Aid benefit concert at Wembley Stadium.
After 10 years of playing sold-out shows across the world, Spandau Ballet disbanded in 1990.
Going Solo
The following year, Hadley signed to EMI and released his first solo album The State Of Play in 1992. He recorded a self-titled album featuring a mix of covers and self-penned songs in 1997.
Hadley was awarded a Gold Badge from the British Academy of Composers and Songwriters in 2005, and he released a swing-influenced record called Passing Strangers in 2006.
In 2007, Hadley embarked on a new chapter as an entertainer, winning over fans on the West End stage where he appeared as Billy Flynn in Chicago.
Over the years, Hadley continued to tour the world as a solo artist, performing with his band – The Fabulous TH Band – as well as with swing bands and orchestras. He also recorded numerous live and compilation albums, with his festive collection The Christmas Album arriving in 2015.
In 2018, Hadley teamed up with some high-profile songwriters and unveiled Talking To The Moon. Peaking at No.4 on the UK independent albums chart, it featured the singles Tonight Belongs To Us and How I Feel About You written by Toby Gad (John Legend, Beyoncé).
Hadley’s 2020 single Obvious was playlisted on BBC Radio 2. Plus he began presenting the podcast Stars Cars Guitars with Jim Cregan and Alex Dyke, on which the trio chat about rock’n’roll adventures, their favourite cars and more.
In June 2021, Hadley announced a series of headline UK dates in March and May 2022, celebrating his four decades in the music business. He returned a year later with a tour that would see him focus on swing music, including reworkings of Spandau Ballet songs and covers by Tony Bennett, Frank Sinatra and Ella Fitzgerald.
