Theatre Royal
The Theatre Royal, Glasgow is the city’s most historic and prestigious theatre, combining grand Victorian elegance with world-class performance. With a seating capacity of around 1,541, it hosts opera, ballet, musicals and large-scale productions, making it a mainstay in Glasgow’s cultural life.

🎶 About the Venue
The Theatre Royal first opened in 1867 as the Royal Colosseum & Opera House. It was damaged by fire in 1879, and rebuilt by renowned theatre architect Charles J. Phipps, giving it much of its current form. Over its long history, it has hosted plays, variety, opera, ballet and pantomime, and in later years it was used by Scottish Television (STV) before being restored for its theatrical use. Since the mid-1970s it has served as the home for Scottish Opera and Scottish Ballet. A major renovation in recent decades has improved the foyer, accessibility, and audience experience while respecting its Category A listed status.
